NEWSFLASH! - Tuesday 7th April 23:00 (from the Campaign)
Huge positivity & Fastnetline pre-booking site opens

A packed meeting of the co-op shareholders in the West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen this evening voted unanimously to form a formal co-op, and elected officers for that co-op.

The shareholders also heard presentations on the current situation with investment and the new ship - and gave the go-ahead for the purchase of the Julia!

Our pledge investment scheme, and the donations facility are still running - and we welcome further investment from people who would like to own a share in this exciting new venture. Rumour has it that the price of a single full share (currently €10k) will be increased very soon - so if you’re thinking of investing - now would be a great time to do it. Places in share syndicates are still available - investment from only €1k.

The new company (Fastnetline) has opened a website where people who would like to  book on the new service can pre-register their interest...

Statement from West Cork Tourism - 23:09 - 7th April 2009

SHAREHOLDERS UNANIMOUSLY BACK DEAL TO PURCHASE THE MS JULIA FOR RESUMPTION OF THE SWANSEA CORK FERRY SERVICE

The basis for the deal to purchase the MS Julia from a Finnish bank for the resumption of the Swansea Cork ferry service has been met with huge positivity. The 300 shareholders gathered last night in Skibbereen’s West Cork Hotel to ratify the deal and form the co-operative.

Speaking of the outcome, Conor Buckley, Chairman of West Cork Tourism and newly appointed Chairman of the co-operative expressed his delight saying "this is what we have been working towards and what we hoped the outcome would be from tonight. Shareholders recognised the great deal that has been negotiated and wholeheartedly gave it their backing. I am extremely proud of the region and of all those who have pledged their money and support to this great cause which holds the key for the future of the South West.”

The deal will now be put to the courts in Finland to approve. If approved, the ship will operate under The Fastnet Line. It is hoped that the service will be running by June of this year.
