About the Co-op

The Co-op (or the West Cork Tourism Co-operative - to give its full title) was formed in April 2009 at the first General Meeting of the shareholders.

It is a formally constituted legal body - with an elected Board (who are all involved with business and tourism in West Cork) and a full-time General Manager (Paul O’Brien). The Chairman of the Board is Conor Buckley, who was awarded Cork Person of the Year for his tremendous efforts in restoring the service.

The Co-op owns the various operating companies under the Fastnet Line banner, and the shareholders own the controlling share in the cruiseferry MV Julia (the peoples’ ferry).

This arrangement safeguards the long-term interests of West Cork and South Wales - as it ensures that the vital link between Swansea and Co. Cork can never be ‘sold off’, without the full approval of the shareholders.

Shareholders benefit from discounted travel aboard the MV Julia, and have the opportunity to advertise their businesses through the Fastnet Line website and www.peoplesferry.com.

To find out more about becoming a shareholder - please see the ‘Invest’ section at www.fastnetline.com There are also opportunities to purchase secured bonds in Fastnet Line - see the same link.
